Episode 1. With Elaine away with her boyfriend, Martin finds himself with a new receptionist in the form of her cousin, Pauline who arrives unannounced. He assists his aunt Joan by examining her friend, Muriel Steele. Her son, Danny Steele thinks she is displaying early signs of dementia and wants to put her in a home. Martin's initial examination reveals her to be perfectly normal but he must re-evaluate his diagnosis when she behaves oddly. Martin...

Ace Ventura has emerged from a self-imposed exile in a remote Himalayan hideaway. He travels to Africa with explorer Fulton Greenwall to find a sacred albino bat which will avert a war between with Wachootoo and Wachati tribes. It is up to Ace to find the sacred bat before the two tribes start fighting a savage war.

Dr. Martin Ellingham is brilliant, dedicated, and highly efficient. He's also brusque, abrasive, and terrified of blood. Once a successful London surgeon, he's now a GP in the idyllic Cornish fishing village of Portwenn, where he's every bit as eccentric as the villagers he serves.

Doc Martin finds life in Portwenn even more infuriating now that Louisa is gone. At the local hospital, he is stunned to meet Edith, his former girlfriend from medical school. Martin learns of a job in London just as Louisa comes calling again.

There's something wrong with PC Penhale's older brother, Sam. Elsewhere, Bert Large gives romantic advice to his son, Al, which only makes things worse with Pauline.

Martin fires his receptionist and informs the locals that they can no longer use his waiting room as a social center. In return, the villagers shun him, the cafe won't serve him, and patients cancel their appointments.

When Martin's fear of blood becomes common knowledge, the practical jokes begin. Tourist season commences, and Martin shocks one buxom visitor by offering to examine her chest. Later, an emergency compels Martin to confront his phobia.

(Aired in the U.S. as "The Holly Bears a Prickle") Martin and Louisa go on their first proper date. When he ruins a kiss with a tactless remark, it's the last straw for Louisa.
