In Phantom trail, accompanying a posse to capture some bandits, Father Halorhan is badly wounded; the bandit who shot him is captured and then dies. Was he poisoned? If so, by whom? In Guns of thunder, two troopers are murdered, apparently by someone eager to see their sealed orders regarding a shipment of rifles bound for Camp Scott.
