Description
Description
A novel that inevitably evokes the work of Cor̀tzar, Antunes, Joyce or Boląo, with whom it has been compared, positioning it in the United States as the great Latin American literary revelation of recent years. After almost ten years as an expatriate in San Francisco, where the artist was doing art, Antonio believes he can return to his native Guayaquil and save Ecuador from poverty and injustice. Leopoldo has called him to be get together to run for the presidency in the next elections. Both childhood friends, who shared messianic fervor at the San Javier school, have the opportunity to recover their frustrated idealism and become the future of their people, despite being themselves children of public officials who in their day contributed to the looting of country. Meanwhile, on the other side of Guayaquil, Rolando and Eva try to change Ecuador through plays and radio programs, although the lovebirds know that their attempts are futile and ridiculous, as is almost everything in the world. The political and social history of Ecuador in recent decades - corruption, populism, the disappeared, the hypocrisy of those who believe their elite - serves as a framework for a novel that poses the absurd but necessary character of the revolutionary beliefs of youth that the years erode.
