Description
"What began in San Francisco on February 12, 2004 spread to Bernalillo, New Mexico on February 20, 2004. Located in Bernalillo, The Sandoval County Courthouse began granting marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples on that day. Throughout the day, hundreds of gay and lesbian couples arrived at the Sandoval County Courthouse, hopeful their turn had finally come. By 4:30 p.m. the doors to equality slammed shut once again, after an 'opinion' by then Secretary of State, Patricia Madrid, was faxed to the County Clerk in Bernalillo. But not before 64 gay and lesbian New Mexicans registered their marriage licenses."--Container.
